Can I Help?
It is almost unknown
for a man's personal record, if it has survived, to give you
more than the briefest information about where he served and the
work his Company carried out.
If the man was an Officer his personal record may have
details although much of the interesting information was
destroyed by Civil Servants in the 1930s. Their interest
appears to have been primarily about an Officer's
entitlement to a pension and other financial matters.
If the man was an Other Rank then the probability is that he
will not be mentioned by name in a War Diary unless he was
awarded an honour or court martialed.
Having said this - can I help you?
As with so many aspects of military labour during the war
there is no simple answer.
As part of the research for "No Labour, No Battle" we have tried
to find every reference to a labour unit in any of the War
Diaries or official documents. So it is often possible for
me to give a good idea of where a man was stationed and often
the work he was involved in.
If you are researching an ancestor please do not hesitate to get
in touch with me.
Tell me:-
The man's name and any regimental number you have (Labour
Corps or another regiment)
Any information you have about any Company he served with and/or
any dates of service
Any family stories about his service - they may not be accurate
or may help pinpoint where he served.
Any other information you think may be of help.
What information you are hoping to get about the man and his
service.
